"Perfect" - Alastair Sawday

The George is an unspoilt, family run pub in the Peak District village of Alstonefield, above Dovedale.

The pub is small, with a bar, snug to the side of the bar and dining room.  The bar has portraits of locals, historic artefacts and a homely fire.

The dining room and snug have been restored to their original simplicity with lime plastered walls and farmhouse furniture.  Candlelight and fresh flowers add a touch of elegance.

We hope that you can join us soon to enjoy our well kept real ales, carefully selected wine list and real pub food.

"A lovingly run country pub in the Peak District, with lime-washed walls and a log fire." - The Times

The pub is the ideal base for exploring the beautiful Staffordshire and Derbyshire countryside.  There are a variety of walks from the pub, ranging from an easy stroll to more challenging routes.

We are passionate about our use of local food and cook ingredients simply. This has been recognized in Alastair Sawday's latest guide, Eat Slow England. We grow a significant quantity of our own vegetables and salad.

During these warmer months, we have plenty of room outside for you to enjoy a drink in the open air.

Our farm shop, in old coaching barn at the back of the pub is open during the daytime and stocks a superb range of local and carefully selected produce.

We recommend booking a table if you are joining us for lunch or supper; please telephone 01335 310205.
